What is a Dog Park?
In general a dog park is an outdoor space established for dog owners to allow their dogs to run free. With current leash laws that cities have, without a dog park places to take your dog to run freely are hard to find. Dog owners who don't have dog parks in their communities usually take their dogs to parks, football field, open field, etc. In other words places that dogs are not usually allowed to run free and places that are not fenced in like a regular dog park.
Dog parks offer much more than just doggie diversion. Romping with other dogs, maneuvering through agility courses, and fetching far-flung tennis balls help dogs to stay in shape and burn off the pent-up energy that comes from sleeping on the couch all afternoon. Playing with other dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages hones dogs' "social skills" and provides much needed canine companionship, which can help reduce aggression and make dogs calmer, happier family members.
The Mission Statement of Paws 'N Play Marshfield Dog Park is . . .
"To establish a fenced in, off-leash dog park where well-behaved dogs can exercise in a clean, safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property or wildlife. To develop a beautiful, well-maintained space open to all dog lovers and friends who are willing to uphold the park's rules and restrictions. To view this park as a community project, in partnership with the City of Marshfield, designed to satisfy the needs of dog-owners and non-dog owners alike."
